Your Marriage Registration

Your marriage registration will take place at:

Crowborough Register Office

Hookstead
Goldsmith’s Avenue
Crowborough
TN6 1RH

Registrations take place in an office in the presence of your two witnesses and two Registrars. You must provide your own witnesses, East Sussex Registration are unable to provide witnesses for you.

It is not possible to personalise these ceremonies or to bring extra guests, including children.

You and your partner must meet with the Registrars at Crowborough Register Office 15 minutes before your ceremony to complete a pre-ceremony interview. The purpose of this interview is to check that the details on your marriage schedule are correct.

Your witnesses will be permitted entry to the Register Office 5 minutes before the start of your ceremony.

Please ensure you arrive on time. Late arrival may mean having to re-book your ceremony for another date.

You do not need to bring any ID or paperwork to your ceremony.

Marriage Vows

Each of you will be required to say two sets of legal vows, which you will repeat after the Registrar. The first declaring that you are free to marry and the second when you take each other as partners in your marriage.

The Declaratory Vows

"I do solemnly declare that I know not of any lawful impediment why I ________ may not be joined in matrimony to ________."

The Contracting Vows

"I call upon these persons here present to witness that I ________ do take thee ________ to be my lawfully wedded wife/husband."

Once you have said your legal vows you will both be invited to sign the Marriage Schedule, followed by your two witnesses and the Registrars.

It is important that you check the schedule, and all your details are correct. If an error is discovered after the schedule is signed, corrections can only be made once a statutory fee has been paid.

The ceremony ends with the Registrar formally declaring you as legally married.

Certificates

Legal marriage certificates are unable to be issued on the day of your ceremony. Any certificates ordered before your ceremony will be posted to you within the two weeks following your ceremony. If you have ordered a commemorative certificate, this will be presented to you during your ceremony, once you have signed the marriage schedule.
