Celebrate the arrival of your new addition with a naming ceremony. The perfect alternative to a christening or baptism.
Whether celebrating the birth of your new arrival, or welcoming step or adoptive children into your family, these ceremonies provide an opportunity to gather family and friends together and declare your love and commitment to your children, name specially chosen people as their Guiding Adults and share your hopes for their future.
Where can we hold the ceremony?
Naming ceremonies can take place anywhere* in East Sussex, including at any one of our four Register Offices.
So, whether you’re planning an afternoon tea in your back garden, a woodland celebration, a sit-down meal at your favourite restaurant, or an intimate gathering at your local Register Office, there's something for everyone.
If your ceremony is taking place at one of our Register Offices, the venue and Celebrant Registrar will be booked during the same process. If you have chosen to hold the ceremony at another venue, hire will need to be arranged with the venue directly. There may be a charge to hire your chosen venue or location. Once their availability has been confirmed you will then need to contact us to book your Celebrant Registrar.
*Subject to a satisfactory risk assessment and evidence of Public Liability Insurance (where applicable). Excludes religious and political premises.
How much does it cost?
Ceremony at an East Sussex register office or licenced venue | £395 |
Ceremony at an unlicenced venue in East Sussex | £495 |
A licenced venue is one that has already received approval from East Sussex Registration to hold legal civil marriage and civil partnership ceremonies.
All unlicenced venues will be subject to a risk assessment by East Sussex Registration. Excludes religious or political premises.
What happens during the ceremony?
You can personalise all aspects of the ceremony. Each child and their families are different, which is why we invite you to personalise your ceremony to include all those things important to you, ensure your ceremony is both meaningful and memorable. We are always happy to discuss your ideas with you to help create that perfect ceremony.
You may wish to include:
- Readings
- Music
- Poems
- Hymns or prayers
- Presentation of a gift
The great thing about these ceremonies is that you can include anything you like.
At the end of the ceremony, you will be presented with a commemorative certificate for you to keep as a memento of the day.
